Protection

Antivirus, ransomware protection, firewall and web protection for your Mac

Cleaning is only half the job. Tidy My Mac also guards what you download, your files against ransomware, your browser against adware, which apps connect out, the sites you open in every browser, and the messages that try to trick you, with every check running on your Mac.

Six layers, one app

Most Mac threats today don't break in; they are let in. A fake download page, a phishing link in a text, a free app that brings adware along, an app that phones home more than it should. Tidy My Mac's Protection group covers each of those steps:

  • Antivirus scans what you download the moment it lands, and scans the rest of your Mac on demand or on a schedule.
  • Ransomware Protection notices when a program starts encrypting your files, and stops it within seconds, even ransomware nobody has seen before.
  • Adware finds the profiles, browser policies, proxies and hosts entries that hijack your searches, which a virus scan doesn't see, and removes them.
  • Firewall shows which apps connect to the internet and where, and blocks any of them with one click.
  • Web Protection stops phishing, malware and scam sites, and ads and trackers, from loading in your browsers and apps. Each of the three lists has its own switch.
  • Scam Detector reads a suspicious message and points out its red flags before you tap the link.

Private by design

Protection that watches everything you do would be a privacy problem of its own. Files are scanned on your Mac; deep malware analysis also sends files to our servers for AI analysis, and you can turn it off. Web Protection checks each site against lists stored on your Mac, so the sites you visit are never sent to us or anyone else. Apart from that, the only thing that can leave your Mac is a message you paste into the Scam Detector, and only when Apple Intelligence isn't available or you ask for an Enhanced Check. The Privacy Policy spells out every request.

No, it adds to them. Gatekeeper, XProtect and the macOS firewall should stay on, and the Security Settings page checks that they are.
