Applications

Uninstall, update and manage the apps on your Mac

Apps leave files behind when you delete them, fall behind on updates when you don't open them, and add things that start with your Mac. Tidy My Mac's Applications group takes care of all three, with everything previewed before it changes.

Three jobs, one place

macOS gives you a Trash, an App Store and a Login Items page, but none of them sees the whole picture. Tidy My Mac's Applications group fills the gaps:

  • Uninstaller removes an app together with the preferences, caches, containers, launch agents, helpers and receipts it left outside its bundle, and finds the leftovers of apps you deleted long ago.
  • Updates checks every app for a newer version, from the App Store, Homebrew or the developer's own feed, and lists apps that lack a published security fix first.
  • Startup Items lists the launch agents that start at every login, turns off the ones you don't need, and measures your boot time.

You stay in charge

Nothing changes without you. The Uninstaller shows every leftover before you confirm, and you can untick any of them. Updates hands each update to the App Store, Homebrew or the app's own updater rather than installing anything itself. Turning off a startup item only sets its file aside, so it comes back with one click. Your list of apps stays on your Mac; the only requests are the update checks described in the Privacy Policy.

Questions about applications

Dragging it to the Trash leaves its Library files behind. Pick the app in the Uninstaller instead: it lists what the app left outside its bundle and removes it with the app.

Yes. It checks apps that publish their own update feed and apps installed with Homebrew too, and opens each one's own updater, or runs Homebrew, to install the update.
