# Tidy My Mac > A privacy-first cleanup and security app for macOS 26 Tahoe or later. It cleans up the Mac (disk map, junk, large files, duplicates, similar photos, a complete uninstaller) and keeps it safe (ClamAV antivirus, ransomware protection, an adware check, a per-app firewall, Web Protection against phishing, scam and malware sites, a Scam Detector, and security fixes for installed apps). Every scan runs on the Mac. Deep malware analysis, asked about at first launch with the box ticked and switchable off in Settings, sends files from the home folder (including documents and photos) to the developer's servers for AI analysis. - Made by Tidy My Mac; contact info@tidymymac.com. - Distributed only from this site as a signed, notarized .dmg. Drill down, preview, and move what you don't need to the Trash. - [Duplicates](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/cleanup/duplicates/): Find and remove duplicate files on your Mac, matched byte for byte. Tidy My Mac suggests the copy to keep, never removes every copy, and knows APFS clones take no space. - [Photos](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/cleanup/photos/): Clean up your photo library: near-identical shots, old screenshots and, if you ask, blurry photos. The best shot is suggested to keep; library photos go to Recently Deleted. ### [Applications](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/applications/) - [Uninstaller](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/applications/uninstaller/): Uninstall Mac apps completely: preferences, caches, containers, launch agents, helpers and receipts go with the app. Also finds the leftovers of apps you deleted long ago. - [Updates](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/applications/updates/): See which of your Mac apps have updates, from the App Store, Homebrew or the developer. Apps with a known security vulnerability come first, from a signed list we keep current. - [Startup Items](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/applications/startup-items/): See the launch agents that start at every login, with the app each belongs to, turn off the ones you don't need, and track your Mac's measured boot time. ### [Protection](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/) - [Antivirus](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/antivirus/): Antivirus for macOS built on ClamAV: real-time protection for new downloads, Quick, Normal and Deep scans, and a quarantine you can restore from. Scans run on your Mac. - [Ransomware Protection](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/ransomware/): Tidy My Mac spots ransomware by what it does to your files, encrypted names, ransom notes and decoy files, and stops the program within seconds. Even ransomware nobody has seen. - [Adware](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/adware/): Find the adware an antivirus misses: management profiles, browser policies, proxies and hosts file entries that hijack your searches. Each explained in plain words, removed in one click. - [Firewall](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/firewall/): An outgoing firewall for Mac: see which apps connect to the internet and the addresses they reach, and block any app's outgoing connections with one click. - [Web Protection](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/web-protection/): Block phishing, malware, scam and fake-shop sites, and ads and trackers, in every browser and app on your Mac. Checked on your Mac: the sites you visit are never sent anywhere. - [Scam Detector](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/protection/scam-detector/): Paste a text, email or DM and see its red flags before you tap the link. Apple Intelligence checks it on your Mac; without it, a server check takes a second look. ### [Permissions](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/) - [Security Settings](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/security-settings/): Mac security check: SIP, Gatekeeper, FileVault, the firewall, XProtect, security updates and apps missing security fixes, scored out of 100, with how to fix each. - [Privacy Access](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/privacy-access/): See which apps you allowed to use your camera, microphone, screen, files, contacts and photos, spot grants left by deleted apps, and open the setting to take them back. - [Privacy Cleanup](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/privacy-cleanup/): Clear browsing history, cookies, caches and form data in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and other browsers, plus macOS recent items. Saved passwords are never touched. - [Browser Extensions](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/browser-extensions/): List the extensions in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Arc and Vivaldi, in every profile, and see which are risky, rated by the access they have to sites and data. - [App Signatures](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/app-signatures/): Check every Mac app's code signature: find apps that are unsigned, ad-hoc signed, not notarized by Apple, or changed since signing, a sign of tampering. - [Wi-Fi Security](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/wifi-security/): Check the security of the Wi-Fi network your Mac is on: open, WEP and old WPA are flagged as weak, WPA2, WPA3 and Enterprise as good, and see if your DNS is encrypted. - [Sudo Activity](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/permissions/sudo-activity/): Check sudo history on your Mac: the commands run with administrator rights in the last 30 days, with the date of each, read from the macOS system log on your Mac. ### [System](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/system/) - [Performance](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/system/performance/): See what is slowing down your Mac: live CPU and memory, each app's CPU, power and memory use, battery wear, SSD health and temperature. - [Background Services](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/system/background-services/): See every launch agent, daemon and Homebrew service on your Mac, which ones are running right now, and stop or disable the ones you don't want. - [Maintenance](https://www.tidymymac.com/features/system/maintenance/): Run Mac maintenance tasks in one click: flush the DNS cache, rebuild the Spotlight index and the Open With menu, clear font caches. Each says what it fixes. ## FAQ ### Does Tidy My Mac send my files anywhere? Only if you leave deep malware analysis on. Every scan (junk, disk map, duplicates, photos, antivirus) runs entirely on your Mac. Deep malware analysis sends files from your home folder, including documents and photos, to our servers for AI analysis; it is on by default and you can turn it off in Settings › Malware Analysis. The other thing that can leave your Mac is a message you paste into the Scam Detector, and only when Apple Intelligence is off or unavailable, or when you choose Enhanced Check; the Privacy Policy says exactly what is sent and kept. The app doesn't require an account. ### How much does it cost? Every download comes with a 7-day free trial of every section. We email you the download link, and no credit card is needed. To keep using it after that, subscribe on this site: $19.99 for the first year for one Mac, then $59.99 a year. There are no tiers or in-app purchases: the subscription covers everything, and you can cancel at any time. Nothing is charged when the trial ends. ### What happens when the trial ends? The app stops working until you subscribe, and nothing is charged, since you never gave us a card. Your files, settings and quarantine stay exactly where they are, and everything picks up again once you subscribe. ### Will it delete something I need? Nothing is removed without a preview first. Duplicates and Photos always keep at least one copy of each file, files go to the Trash (library photos to Recently Deleted), and the cleanup history on the Dashboard lets you put back what you removed. The Uninstaller and Junk Cleaner tell you up front when something is removed permanently instead. ### Does Web Protection see the sites I visit? No. Your Mac downloads the lists of blocked sites and checks each lookup against them locally. A blocked site simply doesn't load; every other lookup goes, unchanged, to the DNS server your network already uses. Browsers that use their own secure DNS, and Safari with iCloud Private Relay, bypass it. ### Do I need Apple Intelligence? No. Ask and the Scam Detector use it on your Mac when it's on. Without it, Ask falls back to the built-in performance advice, and the Scam Detector uses its own rules plus a check on our server. Everything else works the same either way. ### Why does it ask for Full Disk Access? Tidy My Mac is not sandboxed, and it needs to read the whole disk, not just your own folders, to find junk, map your disk, find duplicates and scan for malware. So on first launch it asks you to grant Full Disk Access once. Without it, scans leave out Desktop, Documents and Downloads rather than raising a separate macOS prompt for each folder. You can revoke it at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, and no scan results are sent anywhere either way. ### What macOS version do I need? macOS 26 Tahoe or later. Earlier versions aren't supported and there's no fallback mode to run in. ### Is it in the Mac App Store? No. It's distributed as a signed, notarized .dmg you download directly from this site, which is also why the app asks for the Full Disk Access permission itself rather than relying on the App Store's review. ### How do updates work? Updates are delivered in-app and included in your subscription. The app checks a signed update feed published on this site and only installs a build it can verify. Besides that feed, it goes online only for antivirus signatures, the list of apps with known security holes, Web Protection's lists (while it is on), update checks for your other apps when you ask, and server scam checks. The Privacy Policy lists every request and what it contains. ### Is the antivirus engine legitimate? Yes. Tidy My Mac uses the open-source ClamAV engine to scan on demand. Scans run locally against virus-definition databases that the app downloads and keeps up to date. With deep malware analysis on, files are also sent to our servers for AI analysis. ### Do you collect any usage data? No. There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no crash reporting in the app. If you want to read the exact list of what the app touches on your Mac, the Privacy Policy spells it out file by file.
